By GILL ALCOCK Popular band Muthrtung will be playing at Little Day In again this year with the band using the drumming skills of for- mer member Carsten Blutner who is back on Waiheke on holiday from Sweden. The band will be using the occasion to launch their new EP. The band will also be performing with a new drummer, Mr Lastboats' Ben Martens, guitarist Patrick Hyp and Richard Thornbury on bass. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Street, the organis- ation that ensures young people get home safely at weekends. It also promotes safe drinking practices and wants this year's festival to highlight the dangers of binge drinking and drink driving. Organiser Hera Mohns says: It's not all about raising money. It's also about raising awareness of our young people's attitude to alcohol and the effects of drink driv- ing.'' Muthrtung band mem- bers say: We're always for the Friends of the Street. They do an inspiring job with the youth. They've been good to us and Little Day In is always a fun time.'' They should be on stage at about 5pm. Little Day In also features the reggae sounds of Kaitaia band Ravenous, Noise Control and The Dust. Zumba fans will be able to join in a session with Lilly and her friends and DJ Sam Owens will be on the turntables. Ian Simpson and his band will take to the stage as will Ben and Julz, new talent Hayden and 25th Parallel. Ms Mohns says: It would be good if people came along early to see the kapa haka and to support our young musicians who are on at the beginning of the line- up. Plus Danny Codling and Kara Gordon who used to live on Waiheke will be back performing.'' Little Day In is this Saturday at the sports club on the Causeway. The event will start with a kapa haka performance at 3pm. Entry is $5. NOTICES FRIENDS OF THE STREET, out late and need a lift? Ph 027-629-0596.
