Francoeur, Poulenc & Stravinsky Matteo will play piano solos by Albeniz and De Falla Music to the ears Ricky s Sunday sessions have been offering live music for some weeks, and this Sunday will see Gerry Rooderkerk take to the stage from 3pm. Next up will be Mel Davis aka Soulsista, fresh from Womad, with Lincoln Jackson opening for her on March 27. They will be followed on April 3 by guitar playing Dylan Wade. The free sessions at the Oneroa venue are proving popular with locals and visitors alike and are set to continue thanks to positive feedback , owner Ricky Grounds says. Jazz favourites: Chocolate Fish will conclude the Auckland Fringe Festival at The Barn, Stefano's on Sunday lunchtime. Fringe fest finale The Barn at Stefano s will celebrate the final weekend of the Auckland Fringe Festival on Wai- heke with two popular choirs. Male choir V12 will be in full voice at 9.30pm on Friday night and Sister Shout will perform at 1.30pm on Saturday. A burlesque party with Koko Risque Social Club will entertain on Saturday night at 9pm, and on Sunday at 1.30pm jazz favourites Chocolate Fish will con- clude the festival with some Waihekean mambo jazz . Cellist and pianist unite Cellist: Lisa Chung. By JEROME GAVELLE Piano and music chamber works by Spanish, Russian and French composers of the 20th century will be highlighted at a Whitta- kers concert this Saturday. Cellist Lisa Chung and pianist Matteo Napoli will be interpreting pieces by Albeniz, De Falla, Francur, Poulenc and Stravinsky. Ms Chung has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra for two years and has taken part in concert tours to Korea and Japan. She was also a soloist with the Seoul Philhar- monic Orchestra and the Auckland Youth Orches- tra. Matteo Napoli is an honours graduate of the Girordano Conservatoire in Foggia, Italy. He has studied with a number of world-renowned teachers including Aldo Ciccolini, Nikita Magalov, Alfredo Speranza and Yvonne Lefebure. Early in his career he captured worldwide attention with first and second places in many competitions including first place in the Inter- national Liszt Compe- tition in 1986 in Lucca, Italy. Matteo gave a breathtaking perform- ance as guest pianist with the Manukau City Symphony Orchestra in Auckland in 2003, playing Piano Concerto No. 6 in C by Ferdinand Ries, the first time this music had been performed for 165 years.
