Lunch every Sat & Sun vine & dine on waiheke A toast to new wine range Man O War Vineyards at the eastern end of the island is holding a family day on Easter Saturday. The Last Wave of Summer event will take place at the vineyard s beachfront tasting room at Man O War Bay. It will be the first time the award- winning Man O War wines will be served by the glass at the tasting room and it will also be a celebration of the first release of the vineyard s newest addition to its Black Label range, a voignier named Valkyrie. Along with free tastings there will be bottle sales, olive oils and honey sales. There will be space for the chil- dren to play, music, and Beyond Pizza. Festivities start at 11am and run until 5.30pm. Look out for members of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron who will be racing to the bay and are due to arrive from 3pm. Holiday fun: Painting a taniwha is on offer at Waiheke library. Spoilt for choice over the holidays With the school holidays in full swing, Gill Alcock checks out some of the activities available. Holiday fun for children begins with the school holiday programme at the Waiheke Recreation Centre on Donald Bruce Rd. From 9am to 4pm daily, youngsters can enjoy a variety of activities includ- ing baking, making photo frames, going to the movies, having a picnic at the beach and putting on a Mad Hatter s Tea party. The care is Oscar approved and has Winz subsidies available. It costs $30 per day, with additional care on offer from 8am to 9am for $5 per day. The holiday programme at Waiheke Library takes place on both Wednesdays of the two-week break from 11am until noon and is suitable for five to 12-year-olds. On April 20, local artist Pamela Matthews will show the youngsters how to paint their own dragon or taniwha rising out from the shape of Waiheke Island. All completed works will be in to win a special prize. On April 27, the children will be invited to join in the dance group Kaleidoscope s performance about mythical beasts. Upcycle will be holding sewing workshops at the Story Centre for seven to 12-year-olds, from 1pm to 3pm today, Good Friday, April 26, 27 and 29. The cost is $20 per session or $85 for all five sessions and $35 per session for two children. A wide range of creative activities for the little ones is on offer at The Red Shed Arts Collective in Palm Beach. Classes offer a variety of different creative opportunities including mak- ing crowns, swords, and wands, decorating a mirror, learning Chinese painting, making shell mosaics and painting mermaids. Some of the finished work may be included in the two fundraising shows being held at The Red Shed -- Fans for Japan and Mirrors for Christchurch. The costs are $20 per class or $75 per week, $30 per session for two chil- dren and $40 for three children. They run from 10am to noon this week on Wednesday and Thursday, and on April 26, 27 and 28.
