' Susan Mack, Auckland The second week of the school holidays brought unseasonably hot weather with clear skies and still days. Children flocked to Palm Beach to swim, surf and devour ice creams. Susan Mack from Auck- land says: It's great, more like a summer holiday than a winter one really -- the kids are loving it.'' Her son Ben, 9, took to the water with his boogie board, while three-year-old sister Sinead frolicked in the surf. The week of sunshine came after a brief cold spell which brought frost to Waiheke weatherman Malcolm Philcox's farm. He says the temperatures were up around 16 degrees last week which is within the range expected for this time of year.'' If you get a calm day with no wind chill factor it can feel even warmer.'' Mr Philcox says it doesn't look as if we are going to get prolonged cold spells this winter. We will know by the end of the month if this winter is one of the warmest we have had.
