Photo: ANTHONY WEBSTER Ska music and dance party lovers can look forward to a steaming night on Saturday at Artworks Theatre. Eight-piece band Radio Rebelde will be back on stage after a six-month break to play Latin-ska covers from bands like the Argentinian Fabulosos Cadillacs and French singer Manu Chao. The crowd will recognise Latinised covers from The Clash like the song Revol- ution Rock, or Should I Stay, and from The Specials Rudy and Gangsters, saxophonist Jerome Gavelle says. He will be joined by band members Moik on bass, Kev- sta on guitar, Raul on drums, Sylvain on keys, Felipe on percussion and Roberto on guitar and vocals. Los Rebeldes will be joined by special guest singer Louise Mills who will do numbers by Grace Jones and Amy Winehouse. Louise represented the island in 2009 when she put up an impressive live TV per- formance of Grace Jones Pull up to the Bumper Baby for the show Stars in their Eyes. Waiheke Radio DJ Chica Licorica, DJ Mano Paco and visual jockey Lula will warm up the audience with surprises and visual effects. Mano and Lula will create the trademark multimedia trip out of the Radio Rebelde show, lead guitarist Kevsta says. DJ Chica Licorica wraps up the evening with her diverse global dance mix of afro-beat, Gypsy-electronica, Cumbia and Reggaeton sounds. It s going to be a hot danc- ing party deep into the Wai- heke summer night, Radio Rebelde percussionist Felipe Forero says. Doors open at 8pm and entry is $10.
