The band is made up of Lake McKenna on vocals, acoustic guitar, bass and keyboard with Phil Jones on bass, keyboard and computer and Andy Hoy on drums and samples. They play, write, perform and record music they describe as future folk . Future, because they say they are in a state of becoming and their music is an aural represen- tation of unrealised dreams. And folk because they write simple songs for everyone to play and sing along to. The Wellington band says its musical aims are to try to cap- ture emotions and experiences that are felt or perceived, and present them in a digestible, aesthetically pleasing format. Urbantramper s seventh al- bum is due to be released in May. Phone the theatre on 372-2941 for tickets. Pop art sessions a chance to express true character Mermaid 59: Artist Matthew Muir is teaching pop art techniques at the Red Shed Sunday workshops in Palm Beach. Pop artist Matthew Muir is bring- ing his distinctive painting and illustrative style to a series of Sunday studio workshops at the Red Shed this month. The programme is part of the Red Shed s commitment to sup- porting art education and emerg- ing talent on Waiheke. The sessions take place in a relaxed atmosphere designed to feel like artists working together rather than an instructional course. Matthew took his first session last weekend and there are two more Sunday workshops to sign up for. He provides help to students developing their own style for creating a figure or character, and students can prac- tice rendering and adding expression or exaggeration to develop characters with unique personality. Matthew also demonstrates his pop art style of depicting classic Waiheke scenes. The sessions will culminate in a final piece of artwork that is suit- able for display or sale in the April group exhibition at the Red Shed. The final two pop art studio sessions are on March 18 and 25 from noon to about 3pm and are free for teens. Adults are $10 and bookings are recommended. Leave a message on the Red Shed phone on 372-9367 or email email@example.com for more information.
