Marae revamp doco A documentary on the makeover at Piritahi Marae in Blackpool will screen on Maori TV at 8.30pm on July 4. The AIA Marae DIY episode looks at the three-day programme that transformed the marae's kitchen and grounds earlier this year. It was achieved by volunteers from the com- munity and marae wha- nau. The episode will also be available for online viewing at maoritele vision.com after the tele- vision airing date. Piritahi Marae com- mittee spokeswoman Sally Smith says with its revamped kitchen, in- cluding a commercial dishwasher, and the marae's park-like set- ting, the committee encourages community groups to use the facili- ties for overnight stays, day visits or groups needing a space for their activities. Music, cabaret and fine dining Sultry songstress: Gala the torch singer is one of several entertainers at the Cabaret Cabaret evening at Casita Miro. An evening of continuous pro- vocative performance'' is promised at Casita Miro's Cab- aret Cabaret dinner show on July 20. Organiser Katy Soljak has rounded up a gaggle of top entertainers to create the one- off event of simmering song, burlesque, dance and comedy''. All the performers have characters so while you might recognise a few, they have new names and identities, Ms Soljak says. The evening starts at 6.30pm and tickets will include a three- course meal designed by chef Justin Scheihing and a cocktail. Phone Madame Rouge at Casita Miro on 372 7854 or email enquiriescasitamiro@ gmail.com for booking inquiries.
