An Italian husband and wife will star in the next Live at Five con- cert at Whittakers at 5pm this Saturday. Matteo Napoli will be on piano and his wife Lilia Carpinelli is an operatic soprano. Italian-born Napoli s career spans 30 years and he has recorded six CDs. He is an honours graduate from Giordano Conservatoire in Fog- gia. In 1986 he achieved first place in the Inter- national Liszt Piano Competition in Lucca, Italy. He has performed throughout Europe as well as New York, Mex- ico City, San Paolo, Kuala Lumpur and Japan. Napoli has played as a soloist with many orchestras throughout the world and in 2003 he was the guest pianist with the Manukau City Symphony Orchestra under Uwe Grodd. Carpinelli holds a Masters degree with first class honours from Auckland University and an Italian Diploma as opera singer from the Salerno Conservat- orium in Italy. She has played many operatic roles throughout Europe and in New Zea- land with the Auckland Opera Studio. Her future performances will see her on stage with the Manukau Symphony Orchestra conducted by Uwe Grodd, singing Goreck- y s Symphony of Sor- rowful Songs and the role of the girlfriend in a new operatic work, Len Lye The Opera. At Saturday s concert at Whittakers in the Artworks complex, they will be playing and singing works by Viv- aldi, Puccini, Donizetti and Liszt.
