The 16-year-old boy was stopped and breathalysed on Miami Ave on September 1 and found to have a breath alcohol level of 328mcg/l. There is a zero tolerance for drivers under 20 years old. The next day police stopped a 32-year-old man and breath- alysed him on Sea View Rd. His breath alcohol limit was 570mcg/l. The legal limit for adults is 400mcg. Police are concerned about drivers' attitudes towards the safety of young passengers after ticketing four vehicles whose drivers had unre- strained children in the back. The four vehicles were found to be non-compliant within half an hour of one another during traffic stops. Police say taxis will also be checked in the coming weeks to make sure they are up to the required standards for the coming tourist season. Go to childrestraints.co.nz to see the legal requirements. Flash flood soaks surfaces Gushing backlog: The pace of the water flow caused surface flooding on this Onetangi Rd driveway. Miserable Matiatia: The foreshore car park was temporarily flooded. Wheelie wet: Some wheelie bins almost took off down Onetangi Rd. A period of solid rain was caus- ing drivers to head to the other side of the road to avoid pockets of flash flooding by late Monday morning. The torrential downpour caused short-term floods island wide. The foreshore car park at Matiatia took a soaking and along to Onetangi Rd, outside the Stonyridge exit, it was almost impossible to pass. Surface flooding also rushed down from the Z gas station towards the sea. But the water drained away within an hour as quickly as it had arrived.
