Her sister Piper, 9, right, and friend Grace Ivory, 12 also get to meet the star. Photo: CAROLYN OGG DREAM until your dreams come true. That s the doodle 13-year- old Kavanna Jade had drawn in bright colours on her arm. Later that day her mum Carolyn Ogg gave her some unbelievable" news. "You re going to meet Reece Mastin -- today!" Kavanna Jade has spent 85 days at Starship Hospital this year because of her severe bronchial condition. She knew teen pop sen- sation Reece Mastin was coming to New Zealand and spent two days on the inter- net entering competitions to meet her idol -- to no avail. Meeting the winner of the first Australian X-Factor is one of the things on the bucket list she has written to achieve her goals. But it was a Facebook message posted by mum Carolyn that was picked up by media executive Rebecca Goodenough and made Kavanna Jade s dream a reality. She had a private audi- ence with the singer and, with her sister 9-year-old Piper and her friend 12-year- old Grace Ivory, was allowed to watch Reece being inter- viewed for U TV which went on air last Tuesday. Carolyn says: "The minute he saw her he said Come here and took Kavanna in his arms for a massive hug." Kavanna Jade says Reece feels like a big brother. "I just love him! "I treated him like a nor- mal person, not like a fan would, and I think he really appreciated that. "But I was so emotional I forgot what my questions were and the only one I remembered was: Do you like pineapple lumps?" "His answer was: Is that what all the girls have been trying to give me since I ve been in New Zealand? I bought him some as a gift so I hope he tries them," she says. The "best part" was after the TVNZ interview when Reece played three songs for Kavanna Jade on the grand piano. Kavanna Jade was the first Kiwi fan to be able to watch Reece Mastin s new DVD -- a documentary about his life on X-Factor Australia and on tour. It was released last Friday. Carolyn says: I was blown away by how nice Reece was." Kavanna Jade is back at Starship today for checks on the new medication she is taking to reduce the inflam- mation in her bronchial tubes.
