Group holds spring fair Fairy treats: There's plenty of fun planned for the annual Waiheke Playgroup spring fair at the Old Blackpool School and grounds this Sunday. Pictured here the Lady of Spring, Adrienne Young. Waiheke Playgroup is gearing up for its third annual spring fair fund- raiser on October 14, the last day of the school hol- idays, being held at the Old Blackpool School hall from 10am to 2pm, rain or shine. The day will include a giant mega slide and bouncy castle, a kids' messy tent, face paint- ing, Zebez treasure hunt, cake stall, fire engine and ambulance visit, jumble sale, market stalls, live music, food, Robyn's Island Coffee Kart and major raffles. There is a gold coin donation entry with a door entry raffle at the end of the day. Organiser Kristin Busher says Waiheke Playgroup decided to hold the spring fair on the last day of the school holidays this year as a celebration of winter finally being over and surviving the school hol- idays. We have some excit- ing things planned like our messy tent. Don't worry if your kid gets too messy -- you can buy them a whole new outfit at the jumble sale," she says. "We have some of the favourites from last year, we have the giant Mega Slide sponsored by Mat- thew Smith at Ray White, the Waiheke vol- unteer fire brigade and ambulance, Robyn and her coffee cart and Kirsten from Zebez will be taking the children on one of her treasure hunt adventures. We will have live music on the day with one of playgroup's dads, Lee Catlin's rock and roll band These Automatic Changers, playing an acoustic set for the crowds." The spring fair is Wai- heke Playgroup's major fundraiser for the year with proceeds going towards an off-island excursion. Playgroup has been established for over 15 years and provides a fun and supportive space for preschoolers and their parents. It meets every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8.45 to 11.30am at the Old Blackpool School hall. Anyone interested in last minute market stall spaces can call Kristin on 027 386 1125.
