Volunteers are needed at a special garden dedicated to 13-year- old Kavanna Jade dur- ing the SeaLink Jassy Dean Trust Garden Safari on November 10 and 11. The Hamilton Rd property will have a Christmas theme and Kavanna Jade's mum Carolyn Ogg is looking for people to man the baking stalls and spend some time at the garden. The year 8 Waiheke High School student has an acute bronchial condition and is being supported by the trust which helps sick Wai- heke children and their families. The fundraiser will help Kavanna Jade tick off some items from her bucket list. Carolyn says: We only need people for two-hour slots if that's all they can offer.'' Donations of Christmas-themed goodies and any other food treats are wel- come but please phone me to let me know how you can help.'' Phone Carolyn on 021 264 5706. Fun fete blossoms for ladies' day Piako Fete: Ladies' Day Out organisers Michelle Lewis, left, and Lynsey Champion, right, will be hanging up their hand-made bunting at the Piako Fete at which NZ Masterchef 2012 runner-up Ana Schwarz will be offering food demonstrations. By GEORGE GARDNER GIVEAWAY Waiheke Marketplace has a double pass to give away to the Piako Fete Ladies' Day Out in Matamata. Email editor@waihekemarketplace. co.nz and put Piako Fete in the message field, with your full name and contact details. Entries close at 4pm, November 5. Entrants must be 18 and over and be able to pick up the tickets at the Waiheke Marketplace offices at 1 Tahi Rd during work hours. The winner will be contacted by phone and can make their own way to the fete or book and pay for two spots on the bus. Designer bunting, strawberries and cream and optional bubbles will be the order of the day at the first Piako Fete organised by two Waiheke Island women. The ladies' day out is a first for hat designer Lynsey Cham- pion and graphic designer Michelle Lewis and the pair expect it to become an annual event. Plans are going well, with around 2000 female visitors expected to attend the fete in the beautiful grounds of Dal- ton's Plantation in Matamata on November 15. New Zealand's leading land- scape designer Xanthe White has replicated her award win- ning Chelsea Flower Show gar- den at the venue which is about two hours' drive from Down- town Auckland and features 10 acres of display gardens with a function centre and cafe. Xanthe will be one of the 70 or more exhibitors at the fete which will focus on landscaping, culinary treats and kitchen design, with plants, produce and gourmet food demonstra- tions. Special guest, foodie celebrity Ana Schwarz, is promising to whip up some magic little sum- mer dishes''. It will be al fresco cooking using local produce and lovely edible flowers and herbs from Xanthe White's garden.'' The produce could include local cheese, yoghurt and straw- berries from the area. Event manager Lynsey Champion says since the Ellers- lie Flower Show moved south, the ladies of the north have missed out on all the fun of a landscape design show. This has been our second year of researching to create the event and we found the right venue in the perfect central area.'' Some other Waiheke women will also be enjoying the day. Simonne Aubertin will be launching her range of ladies' frocks and Katy Soljak will be singing at the event. We've already had inquiries from local groups of ladies wanting to go down for the day,'' Michelle says. Entry to the Piako Fete is $19 and a special bus is being put on from Downtown Auckland. The combined bus and entry ticket is $49 return. Babies and toddlers are free on your knee. The bus leaves Auckland at 8.40am, and returns at 3.45pm. Tickets are at eventfinder.co.nz. Phone Michelle Lewis on 027 474 9012 for bus bookings.
