London trio comes to island Leonore Trio: Cellist Gemma Rosefield will be joined by violinist Ben Nabarro and pianist Tim Horton when they perform Live@5atWhittakers on November 11. The Royal Overseas League is bringing a group of musicians to the Whittakers museum for the next Live @ Five Concert this Sunday. The group will be fresh off the plane from London with Whittakers the first venue on the tour. The Leonore Trio consists of Gemma Rosefield on cello and Ben Nabarro on violin, both previous prize winners of Royal Overseas League scholarships, and Tim Hor- ton on piano. All three musicians are recog- nised professional musicians and have performed throughout the world. During their visit the trio will adjudicate, mentor and perform with 10 young NZ chamber music ensembles that will be competing for this year s league scholarship, which will take them to the UK for a five-week study tour. The Leonore Trio will be perform- ing Beethoven s Piano Trio No2 in Eb major Op70 and Mendelssohn s Piano Trio No 1 in D minor Op49. The concert takes place on Sunday, November 11, at 5pm at Whittakers Music Museum at Art- works, Oneroa. Phone 372 9627 to book. Tickets cost $25. CHAMBER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP For the seventh consecutive year the Royal Overseas League is on a quest to find the best New Zealand musicians emerging from universit- ies nationwide for a unique scholar- ship offered to a New Zealand chamber group. The scholarship offers return flights to London, accommodation and hospitality for four or five weeks in the United Kingdom, a cash award of $1000 each, lunch- time concerts in London at St Martin in the Fields and St James s Piccadilly, plus concerts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Auditions for the 2012 Pettman/ ROSL Arts Scholarship will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Per- forming Arts, University of Wai- kato, from November 14 to 16.
