Models donning designs from Waiheke fashion creators will be parading along the catwalk at Island Styles 2012 this Fri- day night. Organiser Lou Mills says the runway show and trade fair at The Dunes in Onetangi will fea- ture diverse styles from a var- iety of designers with some seriously hot collections'' in- cluding one she just happened to come across. I stumbled across a wonder- ful designer, Elizabeth Skelton, who is based in Ostend, oppo- site Latino. Her grandiose ele- gance echoes the glamour of old-school Hollywood. Elizabeth is a remarkable woman still busy creating one- off tailor-made designs after spending her hey-day in London working for famous fashion houses and designing for filthy rich Arabian princes' wives.'' Also exhibiting her new sum- mer collection will be Jeanine Clarkin, fresh from her return from the London Pacific Fash- ion Show. Jeanine has established her Cop Shop Design Store and Studios at the former police sta- tion on Waikare Rd. The gallery and retail store even has its own cell block and is the sample room for her designs. She says: My collection is reminiscent of the 70s, encom- passing kaftans in floaty silks and cottage prints teamed with denim, projecting youthfulness -- a true Waiheke theme.'' Ms Mills says the talented Island Styles hair and makeup team will be making sure the models look gorgeous and three lucky punters will be whisked away backstage during the evening for a makeover. She says the stallholders are also promising a number of jewellery, accessories, beauty care, clothing and family gear hot deals''. Labour MP Jacinda Ardern will be making an appearance, modelling clothes by We-ar yoga clothing and international merino company Avoca, which will be launching its 2013 aut- umn/winter collection created by Waiheke-based designer Bridget Morgan. Other designers taking part include Shine, Heke Designs and bespoke shoemaker Sue Engels. Island Styles starts at 7.30pm on November 30 at The Dunes. The trade fair is open before and after the show with eftpos available. Tickets are $20 in advance from Island, Body and Soles, and The Cop Shop on Waikare Rd, in Oneroa or $25 on the door.
